DC MPD Launches New Online Firearms Permit Application Portal

The District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has officially modernized the firearms permitting process — and it’s a major win for DC firearm owners.

MPD’s new online Firearms Permit Application Portal allows applicants to submit:

  • Concealed Carry License (CCL) applications

  • Concealed Carry License renewal applications

  • Firearm registration applications

This new system makes applying faster, more convenient, and easier to track — all from your computer or mobile device.

What Can Be Done Online — and What Still Requires an In-Person Visit

While the new portal allows you to submit applications, upload documents, and pay fees online, applicants may still need to appear in person at DC MPD.

You must appear in person if your fingerprints and photograph are not already on file.

At your appointment, MPD will:

  • Capture your fingerprints

  • Take your photograph

Important:
🚫 Do NOT bring your firearm to your appointment.

Online and In-Person Submissions Are Both Accepted

Applicants can now choose how they submit their paperwork:

DC MPD continues to offer in-person submission as an alternative for those who prefer it.
